Sony’s Ultra Thin Netbook

It’s thin, light and sexy, that’s what Sony’s VAIO X series has to offer. The latest new addition of Sony’s laptop has been shrunk to a minute size, its ultra thinner and lighter than the Apple’s Macbook Air. The new Sony VAIO series sports an Intel Atom processor that surely gives the creeps of the current generation netbooks.

To make it more enticing for those who are concerned with the specifications, let me tell you this that the motherboard of the X-Series has all the components glued into one side only making more room for the others and to make it even thinner as ever. Some of the components are tightly packed into the rear side of device to make the front half for only the battery.

With this, the Sony VAIO only measures just 16mm all throughout, which is much thinner than Apple’s Macbook Air. Sony has added a couple of drop-down legs at the rear, in the case when you neet to connect an Ethernet cable. Not to mention that the connection is much thicker than the laptop itself. The legs are also use to plug in an optional extended battery in which it makes the front of the laptop much thicker.

The keyboard is large and evenly spaced out giving you more room to type with ease. The touchpad is quite small though, but not to fret, it offers complete maneuverability with precise control.

The Sony VAIO, sports in with a 11.1-inch screen something that most of us would expect on a mid-range netbook. Surprisingly thought it’s not just an ordinary screen that most of its competitors have but it is rather unique than the rest. The screen is crystal clear, offering vibrant crisp images and excellent color reproduction. It’s far better than Apple’s Macbook Air and Lenovo’s ThinkPad X301. The screen resolution clocks in at 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, enabling you to make room for many applications and small windows alongside the screen.

It packs a Intel Atom processor rather a bit disappointing as we hope that they would put in the new Consumer Ultra Low Voltage processors. Enough said, the Atom is set to 2GHz and is powerful enough to do daunting office tasks.

The Sony VAIO is great, with its elegant and stylish design that makes us drool for more. It’s impossible not get attracted to this beauty. In a nut shell the new Sony VAIO X-Series is simply amazing and well rounded piece of machine.

Samsung Revitalizes Notebook PC Market with Launch of New Premium Portables

Samsung Electronics today unveiled a variety of new notebook PC products, signalling its commitment to grow its regional market presence in the mobile computing segment. The new premium, high-performance line-up includes five different models from the X and R Series notebook PCs and N Series mini notebooks that will cater to a wide spectrum of consumers and business users.

Building on Samsung's success to date, the company's foray into the notebook PC market is a strategic move to extend its leadership and propel regional growth in the IT segment. Samsung is already the market leader in monitors and the number two player in A4 laser printer market in Southeast Asia and Oceania. By expanding its IT product offerings to include notebook PC, Samsung intends to tap on the dynamic growth of this region and enhance its presence in the regional IT industry.

Despite the slowing economy, global notebook PC shipments grew 10 per cent year on year in the first quarter, according to iSuppli. IC Insights' Integrated Circuit Market Drivers Report 2009 further projects that notebook PC shipments will rise 13 per cent to 156 million systems this year. In particular, Display Search is forecasting a 66 per cent year on year growth in the mini notebook category to exceed 27 million units globally in 2009.

With its track record in providing the best-in-class hardware and software solutions for optimal performance and its partnership with Microsoft, Samsung is well-placed to capture market share in this growing segment.

Notebook PC:

  • X Series Notebook PCs - Built for maximum portability, the 14.1-inch ultra-thin and light X460 packs the world's first 2950mAh six-cell battery for an unrivalled 10 hours of computing use. The X460's secure biometric fingerprint and trusted platform module authentication system makes it a key choice for mobile professionals.

  • R Series Notebook PCs - Samsung's R420 and R470 come with 14.0-inch LED widescreen displays. Both models feature an innovative water-tight seal around the chassis to prevent damage if liquid is spilt on the notebook PC. The R Series also comes with SuperSilent Mode© for noise-sensitive environments.

  • N Series Mini Notebooks - Comprising the N120 and N310, the lightweight and eye-catching Samsung N Series Mini Notebooks built with HSPA, WiMAX and WiBro technologies can provide more than 10 hours of battery life for extended surfing and entertainment. The N Series is ergonomically designed with large keyboards for greater user comfort.

MSI X-Slim notebooks

When the Apple MacBook Air was first released and unveiled to the world, everyone was astounded as to how thin and slim the entire piece of computing was. Even until today, you won’t find any other notebook coming close to the Apple MacBook Air, never mind the fact that it isn’t exactly powerful to be on par with the rest of the other MacBook Pros in Apple’s stable. Well, other notebook manufacturers did not waste the opportunity of seeing how the Air wowed first time viewers when it was unveiled, and MSI is among one of them to leverage on the lean theme with a couple of X-Slim notebooks. MSI will make available a couple of models to the masses in due time - the 14″ X-Slim X400 and the 15″ X-Slim X600, where both of them will be released sometime in Q2 this year.

Both the X-Slim X600 and X400 are record breakers in their respective categories, having taken top spot in lightness and thinness categories. This comes across as no surprise, thanks to the use of a super slim Li-poly battery in the 14″ X-Slim X400, making the entire notebook weigh no more than 1.5kg. As for the 15″ X-Slim X600, it is slightly heavier (obviously) with a similar battery, tipping the scales at a mere 2.1kg. Both of them are also less than an inch thick (or should we say, thin?), coming with 16:9 theater-class LED displays, full I/O ports, and Blu-Ray support. The beefier X600 is more entertainment oriented as it is also accompanied by a discrete graphic card to maximize visual performance.

There is no word on pricing for either machine,. but we do know that the X-Slim X400 will come with an optional 8 cell Long-endurance battery, while those who settle for the X600 can always opt for the slightly longer lasting 9 cell long-endurance battery. Both models have kept up with the times by adopting external ODD drivers that will further keep the X-Slim series notebooks slim and trendy.

Moonlight Concept Laptop

I am guessing that this Moonlight Concept Laptop is named because of its shape. Granted, its crescent shape makes it a lot sexier than most laptops, and it has some other unique features as well.

For example, it doesn’t have two halves with one screen and one keyboard. No, both halves come with touchscreens. The bigger screen is a 16:9 that serves as the monitor, with the other is a smaller 4:3.

This lower 4:3 display has a screen that can be used like a touchpad mouse. It can also be used as an annex of the larger screen, or it can run mini OS.

You may have noticed that the frame lights up, and there are special sensors that will keep them on as long as the user wants, I imagine.

Yeah, this Moonlight looks pretty neat, and what you can barely see are special legs that lift it above the ground. Hopefully these legs fold up into the frame. Speaking of folding, the way the Moonlight folds up is quite unusual. You know how most laptops fold up so the screen is on the inside, and protected? Unfortunately, the Moonlight has its screen on the outside. This could be a problem.

Well, I can use my imagination to picture an age where every laptop is like the Moonlight. Somehow it looks really futuristic, like out of a science-fiction movie.

Brilliant Fusion Finish
An advanced Toshiba notebook should be more than just a way to make mobile life easier. It should be a reflection of you, too. And this laptop offers the gorgeous new high-gloss Fusion finish with striking Horizon design pattern. It features a smooth, shiny palm rest and a recessed touchpad to that gives your notebook both a more streamlined look and more comfort when you're clicking. Separate multimedia buttons let you launch your favorite entertainment right away as well as control playback--letting you start, pause, fast-forward and rewind almost with feather-touch operation.

The Basics

* Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor has a 2.0 GHz processor speed, fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

With two computational execution cores in a single processor, it provides greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:
o Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
o Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
o Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
o Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.

New Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation)

Lose Yourself in Your Reading

The most elegant feature of a physical book is that it disappears while you're reading. Immersed in the author's world and ideas, you don't notice a book's glue, the stitching, or ink. Our top design objective was to make Kindle disappear--just like a physical book--so you can get lost in your reading, not the technology.

Paper-like Screen

Utilizing the latest in electronic-ink display technology, Kindle provides a crisp black-and-white 6" screen with the same appearance and readability of printed paper. Sharp and natural with no glare or backlight, reading on Kindle is nothing like reading from a computer screen. Those who see it for the first time always do a double-take. The screen works using ink, just like books and newspapers, but displays the ink particles electronically. And unlike a laptop or smart phone, Kindle never gets warm so you can comfortably read as long as you like.

Sharper Display of Images and Photos

Kindle's high-resolution screen now boasts 16 shades of gray, so images and photos are sharper and clearer than ever.

Read in Sunlight with No Glare

Kindle's screen reflects light like ordinary paper and uses no backlighting, eliminating the glare associated with other electronic displays. As a result, Kindle can be read as easily in bright sunlight as in your living room.

Adjustable Text Size

Because one size doesn't fit all, you can increase the text size of your favorite book or periodical with the push of a button. If your eyes tire, simply increase the font size and continue reading comfortably. Kindle has six adjustable font sizes to suit your reading preference. Now every book in your library can be large print.

Read-to-Me Feature

With the new text-to-speech feature, Kindle can read every newspaper, magazine, blog and book out loud to you, unless the book is disabled by the rights holder. You can switch back and forth between reading and listening, and your spot is automatically saved. Pages automatically turn while the content is being read, so you can listen hands-free. You can choose from both male and female voices which can be sped up or slowed down to suit your preference. In the middle of a great book or article but have to jump in the car? Simply turn on Text-to-Speech and listen on the go.

Improved Newspaper Experience

Using Kindle's new 5-way controller, you can quickly flip between articles, making it faster and easier to browse and read the morning paper. Want to remember the newspaper or magazine article you just read? Clip and save entire articles for later reading with a single click.

Faster Page Turns

Pages now turn 20% faster on average.

Bookmarks and Annotations

By using the QWERTY keyboard, you can add annotations to text, just like you might write in the margins of a book. And because it is digital, you can edit, delete, and export your notes. Using the new 5-way controller, you can highlight and clip key passages and bookmark pages for future use. You'll never need to bookmark your last place in the book, because Kindle remembers for you and always opens to the last page you read.

Full Image Zoom

Images and photos display crisply on Kindle and can be zoomed to the full size of the screen.

Personal Documents

Kindle makes it easy to take your personal documents with you, eliminating the need to print. Each Kindle has a unique and customizable e-mail address. You can set your unique email address on your Manage Your Kindle page. This allows you and your approved contacts to e-mail Word, PDF documents, and pictures wirelessly to your Kindle for a small per document fee--currently only 10¢ per document. Kindle supports wireless delivery of unprotected Microsoft Word, PDF, HTML, TXT, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI files.

You can email your PDFs wirelessly to your Kindle. Due to PDF's fixed layout format, some complex PDF files may not format correctly on your Kindle.

If you are not in a wireless area or would like to avoid the fee, you can send attachments to "name"@free.kindle.com to be converted and e-mailed to your computer at the e-mail address associated with your Amazon.com account login. You can then transfer the document to your Kindle using your USB connection. For example, if your Kindle email address is Jay@Kindle.com, send your attachments to Jay@free.kindle.com.

Built-in Dictionary with Instant Lookup

Never get caught without a dictionary. Kindle includes The New Oxford American Dictionary with over 250,000 entries and definitions, so you can seamlessly look up the definitions of words without interrupting your reading. Come across a word you don't know? Simply move the cursor to it and the definition will automatically display at the bottom of the screen. Never fear a sesquipedalian word again--simply look it up and keep reading.

Wireless Access to Wikipedia

Kindle also includes free built-in access to the world's most exhaustive and up-to-date encyclopedia--Wikipedia.org. With Kindle in hand, looking up people, places, events, and more has never been easier. It gives whole new meaning to the phrase walking encyclopedia.

Search

Kindle makes it easy to search within a book, across your library, in the Kindle Store, or even the Web. To use the Search feature, simply type in a word or phrase you're looking for, and Kindle finds every instance in your book or across your Kindle library. Looking for the first reference of a character in your book? Simply type in the name and search. You can extend your search to the Kindle Store to find related titles you may be interested in. Explore even further by searching Wikipedia and the Web.

Audiobooks

With Kindle, you are able to download and enjoy more than 50,000 audio titles from Audible.com, including bestselling audio books, radio programs, audio newspapers, and magazines. Due to their file size, audiobooks are downloaded to your PC over your existing Internet connection and then transferred to Kindle using the included USB 2.0 cable. Listen via Kindle's speaker or plug in your headphones for private listening.

Own an iPhone?

The iPhone is a perfect companion for your Kindle. To read Kindle books on your iPhone or iPod touch, simply download our free Kindle for iPhone application. Our new Whispersync technology saves and synchronizes your reading location across your Kindle(s) and your iPhone. Now you can read a few pages on your iPhone and pick up right where you left off when you return to your Kindle.
Experimental Features

The experimental category represents features we are still working on to enhance the Kindle experience even further. Try them out and let us know what you think.

Read-to-Me

With the new text-to-speech feature, Kindle can read every newspaper, magazine, blog and book out loud to you, unless the book is disabled by the rights holder. You can switch back and forth between reading and listening, and your spot is automatically saved. Pages automatically turn while the content is being read, so you can listen hands-free. You can choose from both male and female voices which can be sped up or slowed down to suit your preference. In the middle of a great book or article but have to jump in the car? Simply turn on Text-to-Speech and listen on the go.

Basic Web Browser

Kindle's Basic Web browser works well to read simple, text-centric Web sites such as Google and Wikipedia. Need to find a movie listing or look up a sports score? Now it's easier than ever to find the information you're looking for right from your Kindle.

PDF Document Conversion

You can email your PDF documents wirelessly to your Kindle, just like other personal documents. Due to PDF's fixed layout format, some complex PDF files may not format correctly on your Kindle.

Listen to Music & Podcasts

Transfer MP3 files to Kindle to play as background music while you read. You can quickly and easily transfer MP3 files via USB by connecting Kindle to your computer.

Saphire blue Acer Aspire Laptop

A great choice for students, this affordable ultra-lightweight Acer Aspire One (AOA110-1588) weighs just over 2 pounds and includes the familiar Windows XP operating system and 16 GB of storage--an 8 GB internal NAND flash memory drive and an included 8 GB SDHC memory card. It has a vibrant 8.9-inch CrystalBrite WSVGA LED backlit display, integrated webcam for easy video chatting, and Intel's latest mobile processor--the Atom. Offering a cool sapphire blue chassis, the netbook's smooth surface is comfortable to touch, and it's accented with distinctive details, such as the attractive orange hinge ring.

Designed especially for mobile devices, the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure new hafnium-infused circuitry, which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors to conserve energy and gives you more time away from the wall outlet--up to 2.5 hours with the included 3-cell battery. Other features include 1 GB of installed RAM (1.5 GB maximum), 54g Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g), multi-format memory card reader, multiple USB ports, and built-in email, web browsing, and digital media applications.

It comes preinstalled with the Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system, which offers more experienced users an enhanced and innovative experience that incorporates Windows Live features like Windows Live Messenger for instant messaging and Windows Live Mail for consolidated email accounts on your desktop.

Processor
The Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure that packs in 47 million transistors into a single chip sized at just 22mm (0.87 inches), and it uses just 2.5 watts of power--less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor--for excellent battery management. This 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor also includes a power-optimized front side bus of 533 MHz for faster data transfer on demanding mobile applications and a 512 KB L2 cache (which temporarily stores data).

Storage
This version of the Aspire One comes with 8 GB of NAND flash memory solid-state drive (SSD), which is adequate for students and those who want to use the laptop primarily as an email and web surfing device. Faster and more reliable, flash memory provides a rapid boot-up and quicker access to applications while improving battery life. Flash memory is also more reliable than hard disk memory, mainly because there are no moving parts. Since data is written to stationary flash memory instead of a spinning hard disk, you have less risk of hardware problems with the hard disk when you're on the move. It's an ideal feature for a travel notebook where knocks and sudden movements are par for the course.

In addition, this Aspire One comes with an 8 GB Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory card--great for storing digital media. The Asprire One has one dedicated SD memory card slot for the included SDHC card as well as a second multi-in-one card reader that's compatible with five different types of memory cards--Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO and xD-Picture Card--for maximum flexibility. The additional SD card slot seamlessly integrates with the internal NAND flash module as an added storage device. The ability to have both a multi-in-1 card reader and a SD card reader at the same time allows you to download photos from the multi-in-1 to share with others and store to the SD card as an internal storage device simultaneously.

Memory
The 1 GB of installed RAM (512 MB onboard memory and one 512 MB DIMM, 533 MHz) can be expanded to a maximum of 1.5 GB of RAM,

DVD/CD Drive
Because of its size, the Aspire One does not come with an integrated optical drive, but optional CD/DVD read/write drives can be connected to the laptop via one of the three USB ports, enabling you to create your music mixes, burn movies to DVD, and more.

Connectivity
This Acer Aspire One notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN (Acer InviLink) that's compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g networks and offers Acer's SignalUp technology for enhanced antenna efficiency. This notebook provides the following connections:

* 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
* Secure Digital (SD) card reader, also compatible with MultiMedia cards (MMCs)
* Multi-in-one card reader supports SD, MMC, Memory Stick/Memory Stick PRO, and XD Picture Cards
* 1 VGA monitor port
* 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
* RJ-45 port for 10/100 Fast Ethernet connection
* 56K modem port (V.90)

Screen, Video and Audio
The 8.9-inch screen has a WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600) and support for up a 262K color depth. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which uses shared video memory with the main memory. Acer's CrystalBrite display technology guarantees the best possible visual experience by preventing the diffusion of surrounding light and internal ray. Compared to normal TFT LCDs, Acer CrystalBrite technology is able to read color coordinates more accurately, thus minimizing distortion and creating high-fidelity colors in all environments.

This notebook includes an integrated audio card with Microsoft DirectSound compatibility, and it includes two stereo speakers.

What's in the Box
This package contains the Acer Aspire One notebook PC (AOA110-1588; LU.S030B.043), rechargeable 3-cell lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions. It is backed by a limited warranty for parts and labor for one year from date of purchase.

The Importance of Warranty

Many gadget users put premium towards the warranty that comes along with their laptop, mobile phone or PDA since no one will know when they would suddenly breakdown. Warranty provides a sense of security for gadget purchasers for the reason that they only want to be assured that they have a means of being able to exchange defective units in cases where faulty production and manufacturing may suddenly fall into their hands.

Electronics are risky merchandise to purchase without any means of replacement within a given warranty period. The chances of landing defective units may not be that high, but just the same, people would do well to be sure about their purchases for value of money. With a vast production line to satisfy the demands for technological enhanced gizmos and gadgets, probabilities of defective merchandise will always be a possibility in any manufacturing concern.

The list goes on as to what categories would fall under this area. Portable media, mobile computers, plasma television, LCD television, home theaters and other forms of technology breakthroughs are sure buys for the people who put premium in technology advancements. Hence the need to safeguard the vested interest of most consumers is a must if reliability is something to be measured for brand loyalty and awareness later on.
