Spotify on iPhone, Android, and S60!

Why is there so much hype for Spotify anyway? Besides being a killer music application for the iPhone 3GS, it's supposed to change the way is being shared--sorry--distributed via mobile device. We initially thought it would be impossible that it would ever get approved considering Apple's penchant for killing any app that competes with the iTunes Store, but it got approved--in Europe.

The day has come for the patient Spotify fans in UK, Sweden, Spain, France, Norway, and Finland to buy and download the app from the iTunes Store, and every music and tech lover's expected to download it. If you aren't convinced yet, check out the features!

Key features include:
  • Access to millions of tracks with Spotify’s constantly updated catalogue
  • Search and stream music instantly. Browse by artist, title, album, genre, label or year
  • Create and synchronise playlists. Updates from the desktop application will be synced instantly and vice versa
  • Playlists can be downloaded and played in offline mode when you have no connection, are on a plane or subway, or abroad and subject to roaming data fees
  • Listen to tracks and albums in their entirety. Rewind, fast-forward, pause, skip and shuffle
  • View cover art for all tracks and albums
Another piece of good news? It's heading over to Android and with Symbian soon! Talk about covering all the bases! Videos of how it'll look like in Android and Symbian below:

How will this affect the iTunes Store? How will Apple react to this application? We'll see soon as Apple has something up its sleeve coming Sept. 9. Until then enjoy your Spotify!

Apple Airport Express

Now with blazing 802.11n, the affordable Apple Airport Express is powerful enough to run a home Wi-Fi network, yet small enough to take on the road. Share your wireless network with up to 10 users, print documents, photos, and more from any room in the house to one central printer, play iTunes music through your stereo or powered speakers using AirTunes, and more.

AirTunes takes the music from the iTunes library on your computer and sends it wirelessly to any stereo or speakers in your home. All you have to do is plug an AirPort Express into an electrical outlet near those speakers, then connect them with an audio cable. In iTunes, you can choose which speakers you want your music to play on--in your den, living room, or bedroom.

If you have more than one AirPort Express connected to speakers, you can play the same music on all your speakers at the same time to create a whole-house musical experience. Plus, if you already have a wireless network in place, you can use AirPort Express to add music to its capabilities.

iPhone Apps: Spotify and RE4!

Monday mornings usually mean traffic on the way to the office, and there's nothing better to then play around with your iPhone 3GS (that is, if you have one). So far, the available Apps at the iTune Store are good, but we'll be looking at two productivity killing apps that just may make your Monday morning commutes a bit better.

Spotify: the app that can rule them all

Spotify for the iPhone 3GS seems to have caught the attention of a lot tech bloggers/tweeters and has been hailed as a music app that can "kill Pandora, Last.FM, Slacker, and iTunes" in one fell swoop. If it's that good, we hope Apple will approve it and place it in their iTunes Store. And it's on Europe only-basis, and that means still waiting a bit even after Apple approves it (if ever).

It's a great app as you can see, however the problem now is will Apple put a competing product on iTunes? Hmmm...with their history of being tightly closed to 3rd party apps that may affect their sales--there's a slight chance we might not even see this coming, but there is hope that they'll change their minds about this.

Resident Evil 4 on the iPhone

Next on the list is a game that most of you will most likely want to play in the morning with a lot of people around: Resident Evil 4 on the iPhone.

The iPhone version of Resident Evil 4 is based off another mobile version originally created for a Japanese mobile phone company. The game features the usual over-the-shoulder third-person shooter gameplay that you have come to expect from the series, and with that comes the usual “stop and pop” shooting mechanic. Resident Evil 4 also features some decent looking 3D graphics, location-based damage, shake to reload, and a mercenary mode, which was first introduced on the mobile version of the game.
It's a port from Gamecube so don't expect a lot: no voice overs, and trimmed down story to fit in a 37.3 MB downloadable file. Although it is still considered a classic, so whether you played it before or not--it's something worthwhile to download and try out. Available now at the iTunes Store for $7.99.

Creative Sound Blaster Wireless for iTunes

Creative today announced immediate availability of the new Sound Blaster® Wireless for iTunes, which will wirelessly play iTunes, MP3 and all audio from a PC or Mac through powered speakers up to 100 feet away. The Sound Blaster Wireless for iTunes including a Creative Wireless Receiver is available today at Amazon.com and Creative.com for only US$149.99.

Sound Blaster Wireless for iTunes enables speakers to be placed anywhere in the home. Turning a Mac or PC into a wireless music system is easy, and it takes just a few minutes.

Sound Blaster Wireless for iTunes works with any music software or content source including iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, Pandora, Slacker, LastFM, YouTube or MySpace. Sound Blaster Wireless for iTunes uses a proprietary wireless technology based on 2.4 GHz designed specifically for audio so the listener doesn’t have to tolerate dropouts or interference, which commonly plague Bluetooth and Wi-Fi systems. Plus, it doesn’t require a wireless network, so it’s much easier to use and set up than Wi-Fi based systems.

Yummy iPod Shuffle treat

At first glance I figured this was some chocolate themed MP3 player, but as it turns out it’s not. It’s actually merely a disguise to make your brand new iPod Shuffle look like a cheap MP3 player. Thankfully, cheap MP3 players aren’t quite as desirable to steal as iPods tend to be. It also has no need to leave space for controls, so there are absolutely no outside markings for others to figure out that an iPod is concealed underneath.

It leaves space so that you can still clip your iPod to your shirt, or wherever else you prefer to clip it. It also has an opening to make sure that you can plug in your earbuds as well as charge your iPod without having to take off the case. This chocolate case comes in three different flavors, white chocolate, milk chocolate and I’m guessing a strawberry chocolate. Either way though, there’s a pink chocolate option. The case won’t cost you much, which is nice since you’re just covering an extremely tiny gadget. You can purchase a case for $8.99 from SwitchEasy.

Apple’s App Store: 1 Billion Served

Well, it finally happened. Apple just delivered its 1 Billionth application download from the App Store, which currently features over 25,000 apps (35,000 by one estimate) built by thousands of developers. The significance of the milestone (besides just the 1 billion mark) is that it’s taken only nine months from when the App Store launched on iTunes to hit 1 billion paid and unpaid downloads.

Last summer, Apple sold one million 3G iPhones worldwide across 21 countries in the first 3 days on sale. During that same time, iPhone users made 10 million app downloads from the then newly launched iTunes App Store.

The count was at 300 million in early December, and the App Store hit 500 million downloads by January 16th. It took Apple six months to reach the first 500 million downloads. It would take Apple only three months to get another 500 billion downloads. By March, 2009, it was at 800 million. We started keeping track via Apple’s billion-app countdown at around 928,077,779. Apple also offered us a fleeting glimpse of the most popular apps ever, something the company only did once before.

Apple apparently already had a hunch of when the billion mark was going to be passed, because the billionth app celebration page was already ready to go.

Apple predicted the time when the billionth app would be downloaded: 1:24:06 AM PST on April 23. That didn’t happen.

iPhone: New Phone, New Problems

If you think the iPhone is the hit gadget of the year, look a little bit further. It is true that the advertising and marketing that his gadget has is surely something that can be commended but seriously, look at the long term use.

There are still a lot of bugs surrounding this gadget and if you are wise, you would want to do some research on potential issues so that your expectations will not fall short.
